Here in the Coachella Valley, the most likely major disaster would be an earthquake. Experts have warned that an earthquake of 8.0 magnitude or greater will occur sometime within the next several decades. An earthquake of this magnitude could severely damage many of our homes and disrupt our utilities and food supplies. Our streets and highways may be impassable and shopping centers destroyed. Many of the supplies we take for granted may be unavailable for an extended period of time. Are you prepared to possibly live without running water, electricity, telephone or readily available shopping?
Remember, in the event of a widespread or catastrophic disaster, such as a severe earthquake, the first responders (i.e., fire, police and paramedics) will likely be overwhelmed and may be unable to reach you for an extended period of time. In other words, be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for a minimum of three (3) days, although some experts suggest being prepared to be self-sufficient for up to four (4) weeks.

We encourage you to download these documents and print them out in advance for use in an emergency. In the wake of a major earthquake it is most likely that power and internet services will be disrupted, and your PC and online resources will not be available.
